Death/Grief

In THE LEGEND OF THE ARROW, twelve year old Roan Cree is eager to leave his worries and his first year of middle school behind. Rushing to get to his grandparents’ home at the lake, he soon finds that his summer has taken an unusual turn. It’s strange enough with Dad missing and accused of making illegal drugs, and with his younger cousin also staying for the summer. Then in the dark hours of their first morning at the lake, Roan and Harriet spot the “Night Visitor,” a cloaked figure sneaking around their grandparents property and surrounding woods who seems to be trying to communicate with them. Soon old legends told by Pop, a cryptic map given to Roan by a strange neighbor, and a trail of feathers, gifts, and connecting caverns lead Roan and Harriet to the identity of the “Night Visitor.” Now they are entangled in an undercover alliance they know little about and are told Dad’s safety and his important work depend on them. The cousins are charged with an urgent task in the form of a riddle that they must work together to solve, but they also learn that Pop is in the hospital. Time is running short and Roan must choose between risking his own safety to help the people he loves most, and a chance to see his father again and to say goodbye to Pop.
